Hi, I’m Aastha, and welcome to Live Longer World, where I interview scientists researching the frontiers of longevity science and write about health & longevity practices.
“The [current] standard of care for glioblastoma is responsible for the overall poor survival and death of these patients. I’ll stand by that because I have the scientific evidence to support that.”
“They’re all the same disease. Brain cancer is not that different from breast, colon. They all have the same problem with mitochondria. They’re all dependent on glucose and glutamine.”
- Dr. Thomas Seyfried
Cancer kills 1,700 people a day in the United states alone. Billions are spent towards solving it with little to show for. Could it be because the current theory of cancer is based on a flawed explanation? My guest Dr. Thomas Seyfried says yes.
He is a Professor of biology, genetics, and biochemistry at Boston College. He has over 150 peer-reviewed publications and is also the author of books such as, ‘Cancer as a Metabolic Disease: On the Origin, Management, and Prevention of Cancer’.
Thomas Seyfried challenges the existing paradigm that says cancer is a genetic disease. He says that instead cancer is caused by damage to the mitochondria. Understanding this completely overturns the management and prevention of cancer.
We discuss:
Why cancer is not a genetic disease
Why cancer is a metabolic disease originating from damage to the mitochondria
How metabolic therapy, management of glucose and glutamine, can be used to manage cancer
His December 2024 paper outlining a proposal for ketogenic metabolic therapy in glioblastoma
